The service, called Truth API, reportedly costs as much as $100,000 per month and is designed for institutional investors and high-frequency trading companies. Trump’s posts can influence shares, oil prices, currencies and other markets because he frequently announces or comments on US policies through the platform. Critics argue that traders receiving machine-readable posts within milliseconds could gain an advantage over ordinary investors.
Democratic lawmakers have asked the US Securities and Exchange Commission to examine whether the arrangement threatens market fairness or creates an improper conflict of interest. Their concern is strengthened by Trump’s financial interest in Trump Media, meaning stronger company revenue or a higher share price could increase his wealth by hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars. However, no regulator or court has concluded that Trump personally committed insider trading through Truth Social. Calling the arrangement proven insider trading would therefore be inaccurate. The current issue involves allegations, ethical questions and requests for investigation, rather than an established criminal finding.
Trump Media has defended the product, saying it distributes available Truth Social content and simply helps professional customers receive and process posts faster. Supporters may view the service as a normal commercial data product, similar to real-time financial news feeds. Opponents say a sitting president should not personally profit from faster access to policy announcements capable of moving global markets. The controversy is likely to intensify as lawmakers seek details about subscribers, timing advantages and safeguards. Until authorities complete a review, the central question remains whether Truth API is legitimate data delivery or an unfair system that allows wealthy traders to benefit from presidential communications.
