The Cambridge Dictionary defines holocaust as “the killing of very large numbers of people,” whether by gas chambers, guns, or systemic deprivation. For the past decades, 2 million Palestinians are trapped in what scholars call the world’s largest open-air prison, where Israel controls every morsel of food, drop of water, and watt of electricity. Today, the open air prison has turned to an open air extermination camp.

For over 19 months, Israel has bombed bakeries, schools, hospitals and blocked aid trucks, reducing parents to grinding animal feed to fill their children’s stomachs.

58 dead from malnutrition
242 from medicine shortages
Over 300 miscarriages.

But behind the stats are kids like 6-year-old Youssef, who starved to death weighing just 9 pounds. This is what genocide looks like in 2025—slow, methodical, and televised.

The thing is, genocide doesn’t need gas chambers. As Nobel Peace Prize nominee Maung Zarni puts it, “What we’re seeing in Gaza is mass extermination without the gas chambers.” Carpet-bombing 80% of homes, schools, and hospitals achieves the same goal: erasing a people. Israel’s President Herzog spelled it out: “No one in Gaza is innocent.” Not the infants, not the doctors, not the poets. Half of Gaza’s population are children. When you bomb them, starve them, and trap them in rubble, you’re not fighting Hamas. You’re wiping out futures.

In Auschwitz, Nazis rationed calories to weaken prisoners. In Gaza, Israel restricts food to 90 calories a day per person. When Jewish prisoners in Auschwitz rebelled, Nazis slaughtered 500 in retaliation. When Palestine resists, Israel launches a “bigger Shoah” (Holocaust), as one official threatened, bombing entire neighborhoods. The playbook hasn’t changed—only the perpetrators.

Western nations bankroll this. The U.S., UK, and Germany pour billions into Israeli weapons while vetoing ceasefires. They’ve turned “Never Again” into a hollow slogan, watching as Gaza’s parents dig graves with their bare hands. This isn’t just Israel’s genocide. It’s the West’s complicity in a “white imperialist man’s genocide,” as Zarni calls it—a system that values some lives over others.

But trauma doesn’t stay buried. Israel wants to break Palestinian minds, not just bodies. Kids in Gaza now suffer PTSD rates higher than Holocaust survivors. Yet, like the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, resistance persists. Because when you’ve lost everything, hope becomes rebellion.

The world swore “Never Again” after Auschwitz. But in Gaza, “again” is happening in real time—and we’re letting it. Silence isn’t neutrality. It’s consent. Call this what it is: genocide. Not because it’s a metaphor, but because it’s the truth.
