In recent months, numerous incidents of mistreatment and unjustified denial of entry to Indian citizens in foreign countries have sparked serious concern and anger across India. Despite valid visas and proper documentation, Indians are increasingly being subjected to detention, harassment, and even deportation.

In Georgia, an Indian tourist was reportedly treated like a criminal, held for hours, and then denied entry without a clear explanation. Similarly, in Moscow, Russia, a group of Indian travelers were detained and interrogated despite having all required travel documents. Eyewitnesses described the treatment as rude and humiliating.

A student from Haryana, India, faced racial profiling at a US airport, where he was held for extended questioning and missed his connecting flight—despite having a valid student visa. He described the experience as “deeply disturbing and unfair.”

Worryingly, many countries are now directly refusing entry to Indians even with valid visas, citing vague reasons like “security concerns” or “additional verification.” These denials often occur without any proper explanation or opportunity to appeal.

Although the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has acknowledged the rising number of complaints, it has not taken any strict action. There has been no formal summons or demand for explanation from foreign ambassadors in India, nor has any diplomatic protest been publicly issued.

This lack of strong response has triggered criticism from citizens and rights groups, who are urging the government to take urgent diplomatic steps to protect Indian travelers. Legal experts point out that such treatment violates international norms and may reflect a growing trend of bias against Indian passport holders.

With global mobility tightening, the demand for the Indian government to act decisively and safeguard its citizens abroad is growing louder.
