The recently concluded Bihar Assembly Election 2025 has stirred widespread controversy across the state, with several political parties and citizens alleging massive irregularities and bias by the Election Commission (EC). Numerous complaints, reportedly supported by documentary and video evidence, have surfaced regarding polling booth malpractices, misuse of administrative machinery, and intimidation of voters.
Opposition parties claim that despite submitting strong proof of electoral violations, including video footage and signed statements from polling agents, the Election Commission failed to initiate any inquiry or corrective measures. Allegations suggest that many complaints were either dismissed without review or marked as “resolved” without any visible action, creating suspicion of partiality in favor of the ruling BJP.
Several candidates alleged that EVM malfunctioning and vote count discrepancies occurred in multiple constituencies, where BJP candidates eventually won by narrow margins. Protesters across Patna, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur held demonstrations demanding transparency and recounts, but their appeals were largely ignored by officials.
Political observers say this controversy could undermine public trust in democratic institutions if not addressed promptly. Analysts note that the Election Commission’s credibility, once regarded as impartial, appears increasingly questioned amid claims of open favoritism toward the BJP.
Meanwhile, the BJP leadership has dismissed these accusations as politically motivated, asserting that the election was free, fair, and conducted under strict monitoring. However, the silence of the Election Commission on specific documented complaints continues to fuel public anger and social media debates.
As tensions rise, citizens and civil groups are urging the Supreme Court of India to take suo motu cognizance of the matter to ensure electoral fairness and restore faith in the democratic process in Bihar.
